Summary Description

The Data Analyst will play a crucial role in enhancing data management activities and supporting the development of data-centric tools. This position involves identifying and applying appropriate formulas and statistical techniques, designing and implementing accurate analysis, and working with data sources using tools such as Alteryx, Python, or SQL. The analyst will also develop SQL code, create data models, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and develop data-driven solutions. Additionally, the role includes creating data visualizations and dashboards with Tableau or PowerBI, ensuring data analysis and reporting accuracy, and recommending and implementing appropriate tools for team needs. The ideal candidate will possess a growth mindset, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to adapt to changing client needs and priorities.

This position is located in our Dallas, Texas office. After successful onboarding, the position is open to a hybrid work model (Tuesdays & Thursdays in-office), as well as flexible working scheduling. While preference will be given to candidates able to work from our Dallas office, we will also consider candidates who can work from our Fairfax office.

Essential Job Functions / Job Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Support data management activities under the guidance and oversight from your manager:
    • Identify and apply appropriate logic and statistical techniques with assistance.
    • Design and implement accurate, meaningful analysis using sound techniques and approaches with assistance.
    • Work with data sources or equivalent in Alteryx or other workflow tools such as Python or SQL.
    • Develop entry level to intermediate SQL code, such as nested queries, merge statements, and different functions in SQL.
    • Design an effective data model for a project task with guidance from the Data Intelligence Senior Manager.
    • Support and develop internal data centric tools required for client deliverables.
    • Entry to Intermediate level of proficiency to collaborate and implement appropriate Python, SQL, Alteryx or equivalent packages to develop tools as needed by the team.
  • Entry level of proficiency in collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and under the direction of the supervisor, support to develop data driven solutions.
  • Entry level proficiency in creating data visualization and dashboards with Tableau or PowerBIas follows:
    • Publish reports, dashboard, and applications to internal and external audiences, with guidance as needed.
    • Build interactive, multifaceted reports and dashboards that utilize filters and relationships between metrics and visuals, based on an approved design.
    • Communicate dashboard/visual content to an internal audience, including development of verbiage and/or scripts to present products.
  • Ensure that tasks are completed on time and accurately.
  • Create and maintain documents associated with any development and support activities.
  • Properly and accurately track all your time worked and expenses. Input on time in the expense and time keeping system, billing to the correct codes, and using the correct labor categories.
  • Perform all other duties as needed and assigned.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Possess a growth mindset seeking continuous improvement and supporting a culture of learning, growing, and improving as an individual, our team members, our business, and our client work.
  • Entry level proficiency in:
    • SQL (basic queries, joins, stored procedures)
    • Python or Alteryx for data workflows
    • Effectively developing measures, calculated columns, and data sets. Be able to communicate the difference between measures and calculated columns, and where to use them (or Tableau equivalent)
    • Determining which visuals (such as data layouts, graphics, dashboards, etc.) are more effective than others for communicating results and data – have a design with audience and UX in-mind mindset.
    • Determining the rationale for selecting specific approaches used in queries, stored procedures, and views (e.g., update vs. insert vs. merge, join types).
    • Online collaboration and file sharing tools, such as SharePoint and the Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
  • Intermediate level of proficiency in:
    • Collaborate internally and externally to co-create successful outcomes.
    • Analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities. Strong attention to detail in your work and work produced by more junior team members.
  • Possess sound business ethics, including the protection of proprietary and confidential information. 
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to a changing landscape and client needs, handle multiple time-sensitive priorities, excel in a fast-paced environment, and ability to pivot and adjust priorities and approaches
  • Possesses excellent interpersonal skills including courtesy, professionalism, and a cooperative attitude. Ability to manage challenging interpersonal situations, including employee and client relationships. 
  • Possesses good written communication skills with a propensity to write in a clear, concise manner to convey points effectively, creatively, and with the appropriate tone and professionalism.
  • Possesses good verbal communication skills to effectively interact with and build confidence with internal and external contacts, including public speaking.
  • Possesses initiative, proactiveness, drive, enthusiasm, energy, and follow through.

Required Education and/or Experience

  • Demonstrated experience with data collection, data wrangling, and ETL.
  • Demonstrated experience with ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager a plus, but not required.
  • Demonstrated experience with generating insights through visualizations utilizing Tableau or PowerBI.
  • Demonstrated experience using SQL and/or Alteryx for data cleansing and analysis

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Experience supporting sustainability, ESG, energy and/or decarbonization programs
  • Experience in a client facing consulting role, delivering professional services, and building relationships across clients and internal teams.

Travel Requirements

Periodic travel is required for the role. Travel may include travel to RE Tech offices, if remote, or between RE Tech offices (Tysons Corner, VA and Dallas, Texas) for meetings (estimate of four times per year), as well as for Legence and/or client business needs.
